Serious Sam: Double D Review

If I had to describe Serious Sam in two words, they would probably be ?Duke Nukem?. Both Sam and Duke are very?masculine, love the female body, shoot first and?ask questions later, and don?t have a lot of depth to them. ?Sam Stone throws some one liners here and there, and to be quite honest, the only one that made me smirk was a Tomb Raider?reference. In short, if you are looking for a game with a deep story and characters that just draw you in, this is not your game.

Audio-?Right when you start the game, a hardcore rock song is blasting in the main ?menu, which pumps you up for the action that is about to go down. Weapon sounds are pretty good across the board, but I was?disappointed?that there was no voice acting, even though this game is going for a retro feel. As a fan of all sorts of rock, the soundtrack was very appealing to me. The music does a fantastic job at setting the mood, even if that mood consists of shooting aliens in the face

Gameplay ? As for the?gameplay, it?s pretty much exactly what you see, shoot everything on screen until you are the last alive and move on to the next area. One thing that

Come at me bro.

did catch my eye, however, was the gun stacker. Basically, what this does is allows you to combine up to six guns together to make one super deluxe gun. The best part is, if you make a mistake or decide you don?t want your chainsaw tied to your shotgun anymore, you can separate them at anytime with no cost. ?This feature alone kept me interested in the gameplay, and really added a new level of customization that most other games fail to reach. The whole game can be completed in about 4-7 hours, depending on skill and difficulty level, and that is very good for an $8 downloadable game.

The difficulty spikes at certain points, and settles down randomly. For instance, before you can stack for the first time, killing enemies can become tedious. After that it becomes pretty easy, until you get jumped by the?kamikaze, and continues on a similar pattern like that. The secrets aren?t the hardest secrets in

Yeh. Those things kind of blow up...

video game history, but you might need to replay the game once or twice to find them all.

The enemies range anywhere from exploding gorillas to exploding pancakes, ?or even?suicidal headless people with bombs for hands that, you guessed it, explode. Some enemies don?t explode however, but these enemies are very simple and easy to beat. The exploding ones are much harder, because not only must you shoot them, but you must run away at the same time. Boss battles are not exactly rare in this game, and once you encounter one, the main focus usually is to spray and pray. Unless you are only using one gun at a time, but who could resist?combining?an RPG and a Tommy Gun.

The game puts a limit on how much ammo each gun has, in an attempt to make you conserve it. However, ammo packs are everywhere, and it is almost impossible to run out of it unless you try really hard.

Mmmmmmm... Donuts...

Graphics?- For the retro feeling this game is going for, the graphics are just fine. Each enemy spills his/her fair share of blood, and each level has a variety of colors, rather than the usual brown and gray from most shooters. My absolute favorite feature visual wise, however, is the ability to change the blood and gore. Normally, this is for worried parents trying to protect their children, but killing a giant lady with bombs for breasts is just all that more?satisfying?when candy and?donuts?replace blood and gore.

The challenge mode seems to be an after thought in this game, and reminds me of the challenge mode in God of War, in that it?s pretty hard, but if you stick with it, almost anybody can beat it. One thing I did find a bit corny is that when you go to quit the game, or preform almost any action in the menu, it asks you if you are serious. Nothing big, just something that stood out as another failed joke Serious Sam attempted.

Bottom line is if this game doesn?t appeal to you, you probably won?t be surprised at all by actually playing the game. On Steam, it goes for $7.99 but if you buy it before September 6th, you save 10%, and I?m sure there will be lots of other deals involving this game. If you seriously can?t wait for Serious Sam 3, than you should seriously consider this game.

Chemotherapy is really a word that strikes worry into a lot of our hearts. We've witnessed the videos and heard this kind of horrible stories about undergoing this really difficult treatment method for the disorder that may awfully effectively kill us. I underwent chemo for breast cancer and understand that, in some instances, the cancer is not complicated . it is not distressing . it won't make us sick. That's the case for the majority of of us that have breast cancer, but will not have distant metastases. But then, they say we want to accomplish chemo and we know we'll sense that. However chemo drugs haven't adjusted that substantially, and they're even now terribly tough on our bodies, the management prescription drugs have altered loads. Chemotherapy, for a lot of of us, isn't really the show-stopper we considered it might be. However, each and every of us differs additionally, the chemo medications have an affect on each of us in different procedures, but, for the most part, chemo is certainly doable. My breast cancer was Stage IIIa, along with a 5.eight cm tumor, 8 of ten lymph nodes optimistic, and I was only 39 years older. That bought me a ticket for your chemo trip. And I was terrified outside of my wits. But, I determined an on-line breast cancer support group, at WebMD, and people women of all ages informed me all to count on plus more. I went by using four rounds of adriamycin and cytoxan. Both equally of them are some fairly stout breast cancer chemo medication. Soon after that, I did a controversial therapy that concerned especially substantial doses of cytoxan, taxol, and cisplatin, so I figured out really quite a bit about surviving chemotherapy. First of all, I'd personally highly endorse gaining a port. This is a line that goes into a vein in the chest, the entrance to which sits just under the skin, proper under your collarbone. It necessitates a rapid surgical procedures to put it in but, if you're obtaining a mastectomy for your breast cancer, you may get the chemo port put in on the exact time. For those who determine not to do that, you'll have to acquire your chemo solutions via your veins and chemo is really complicated on your own veins. This means that you'll, almost definitely, really need to endure many different attempts for them to seek out a vein, as time goes by. Using the port, it is already inside a vein, so all they have to do is stick the needle in to the port to accessibility it. In the event you discover this uncomfortable, there is a cream they're able to give you termed Emla cream. One for the earliest factors I learned was to inform them the second I was uncomfortable. It is really all fixable. You are going to put the Emla cream on a bit before you should have your port accessed and it's going to numb the skin. Most breast cancer chemotherapy medication will contribute to your hair to fall out. It is because chemo kills the quickly dividing cells with your physique. Your mucous locations and hair follicles are affected because of this. This is exactly why it's possible you'll have nausea or produce mouth or throat sores. Yet again, all this appears frightening, but is totally manageable. Due to the fact you'll likely be shedding your hair, which might be relatively traumatic, I'd advise going wig or hat searching before you decide to even get your primary chemo. Just take a girlfriend with you and be adventurous. Try on diverse styles, and in some cases shades. If you have frequently wished to be a blonde, now's your opportunity! Create a day of it and also have entertaining with it. Goodness knows, you may have to hunt for that silver lining each individual likelihood you will get. Also, make sure to have your nausea med prescription filled before you decide to go so you will have it anticipating you once you ought it in the home. Chances are you'll be really fatigued, afterward, so will not wait till then to get people meds. In your primary chemo day, they're going to very likely supply you with some steroids, intravenously or as a result of your port, to aid using the nausea. This will make you hungry; it convinced did for me! But, I might recommend you don't consume your beloved meals on chemo day. Chemo is manageable, but soon after you are all finished, chances are you'll discover that you might have associations. By way of example, I made use of to fancy the cucumber melon fragrance once i was going through chemo. I had cucumber melon anything! But, to this day, the odor of cucumber melon tends to make my abdomen perform a little somersault for the reason that it reminds me of this type of an unpleasant time in my life. Exactly the same can happen with food. I however are not able to start looking a chicken burrito from the eye! But, I am guaranteed glad I didn't eat a taco since I would've hated for that to be ruined for me! A great many breast cancer chemo prescription drugs are really difficult in your bladder, so ensure to drink, drink, consume. If you do not come to feel like consuming water, then broth, jello, or popsicles can help. Given that you have gotten your nausea meds all stuffed in advance, be certain to take them as recommended, even if you're thinking that you want them or not. Chemo nausea isn't just any kind of nausea and it really is easier to remain ahead of it than to endeavor to resolve it when it happens. At any time you do occur to have nauseated, and I can not worry this enough, call up your health practitioner!!! One can find countless, some nausea meds and you also do not need to sense sick just because you are undertaking chemo. When they get a hold of the right drug for you, it will eventually be so much easier. So, tend not to experience this in silence! Precisely the same applies for in case you get sores in your own mouth or throat. You will be worn out from this cure. Nearly all of us get even more fatigued as being the solutions progress seeing that they make our white blood cell counts drop very minimal. Owing to this, it's a superb plan to keep some Purell, or some thing identical, with you all the time for use when you've got had to touch, one example is, public restroom door handles. Your risk of infection can be a lot of better during this time. If you should lose your hair, it will eventually typically happen in 10-14 days after your 1st chemo cure. Once you have long hair, you might desire to minimize it small in preparation. I understand I felt so outside of command of almost everything, through that time. When your hair arrives out, it lets go fairly quickly and in major clumps, having throughout your pillow and clogging your drain. For a lot of adult females, that could be far more traumatic than even shedding a breast. So, I figured which was the just one matter I could command about this total breast cancer thing . when my hair arrived out. I reduce it definitely limited, beforehand and, when it started off to let go, I had my husband obtain the clippers and shave my head. My daughter aided and we did a little Mohawk and stripe action number one! Which was my method of shaking my fist at this cancer . it can take my breasts, and it could possibly get my hair for a when, but I beat it on the punch! It absolutely was my way of declaring, "You won't be able to just take my spirit!" You are able to do the same issue. Your breast cancer doesn't define you. It is actually but a pace bump while in the study course of your respective daily life. Strap in your gloves and phase into the ring. This chemo is your most important punch. Your spirit is your personal and that breast cancer won't be able to touch it!

Motley Crue's Nikki Sixx -- the Most Unlikely Art Photographer ...

In? March of? 2009, when the Annenberg Space for Photography opened in in Century City, the most remarked upon guest at the gala was David LaChapelle?s date, Courtney Love.

I thought of Love? during an unveiling of images late last week at the Annenberg -- all taken over the last two decades by Motley Crue bassist Nikki Sixx -- when he put up a photo of a homeless woman holding a sign reading, ??I?m Not A Bad Girl, I Just Made Bad Decisions?.

Anyone wondering about the wisdom of the Annenberg's decision to feature the art of Sixx was happily surprised. Not only was his camera work fascinating -- and its variety a bit dazzling -- the rocker?s world view as he answered questions from moderator Kristine McKenna and the audience was quite compelling. ?

Sixx, now 51, said he'd been captivated by the medium since the late '80s, but his interest didn't truly flower until around the time he -- after a long series of addictions, including a near-death by overdose, chronicled in his book ?The Heroin Diaries? -- got sober in 2001.

?I?m very passionate about what I wrap my? hands around,? said Sixx. ?The recovery wants me to engage; the addiction made me disengage.?

What recovery gives one, he added, is that ?it allows your heart to soften.??

He noted his images ranged all over because, ?My life isn?t consistent. My life is chaotic. Rock 'n' roll is chaos.??

Sixx -- who also has a new book and album out, both titled ?This Is Gonna Hurt? -- alluded not just to his sobriety but his struggle to show his individuality growing up, starting from his rough upbringing that included a ?sorta? homeless delinquent stage.

?I was a gnarly little kid, a fighter,? he told the crowd. ?I try to hold on to that edge.

"If you?re Bill Gates,? he added, individuality "is okay -- in the beginning he was [called] a whack job.?

His pictures, many of them in brooding black and white -- ?like a deliciate study of a wet street in Prague at 3 a.m. -- were often grabbed on the run as he toured. He?s asked for a shot from many a prostitute in the world?s capitals, but a certain gentleness emerges in the shots of the homeless -- or even of a shy hotel maid who said she was too ugly to photograph.

I said, ?I?m gonna take a picture and show you you?re beautiful.?

And the image shown proved it.?

Why Secured Loans Are More Available Then Unsecured Loans | All ...

When a person is searching for a loan they are going to find there are two basic types of loans: secured and unsecured. In the majority of cases they will also see that secured loans are by far more available then unsecured loans. There is a very good reason for this and that is why most people will end up getting a secured loan.

Secured loans are a loan that is secured by collateral. Collateral is something that the borrower puts up for the loan. An example is in the case of a home loan. When a person is buying a home the home becomes the collateral.

What this means is that if the borrower does not pay their loan the bank then becomes the owner of the home. They can sell the home to get the money owed to them. The collateral a borrower puts down must be something valuable that could be sold to make up the cost of the loan.

Banks and other lenders prefer a secured loan over an unsecured loan because with a secured loan they have some guarantee of getting their money back. When a lender lends money they are basing their decision on many factors. They usually will look at the borrowers credit history to get an idea of the borrowers ability and likelihood of paying them back.

They also look into a borrowers finances. This tells them if the borrower can afford the loan. Lenders understand, though, that even if a person can afford a loan and has the most perfect credit record does not guarantee a borrower will not default on a loan.

A lender looks at secured loans as less of a risk then unsecured loans. With a secured loan they are getting something in return for the loan that they know they will be able to sell, if need be, and recoup some of the money owed to them.

Secured loans are still a risk for the lender. Even though a borrower puts up collateral, the chances of the collateral actually equalling the amount of the loan is not likely.

This is especially true of auto loans where the auto being purchased is used as collateral. If the lender should need to sell the auto to recoup their money they will not likely get the full amount owed to them.

This is why secured loans are still not simple to get. A secured loan still requires the borrower to show they will pay back the loan. Lenders are still wanting to make as much off the loan as possible, so they are going to want to be paid back, not have to collect through collateral.

any-loans.co.uk? target=?_blank Secured loans are more available then unsecured loans simply because they are lower risk. Lenders like to have that added security of collateral. They like the idea that the borrower is willing to out themselves at risk too.

With a secured loan both the lender and borrower are assuming risk so it is a more even playing field then with an unsecured loan. That is why borrowers will find secured loans to be more available then unsecured loans.

Companies can sag upon transition from founder to successor. Will Apple?

History is rife with examples of companies that lost their cutting edge along with their founders. As Steve Jobs steps back from Apple, some analysts say innovation may slide. Others see 'deep bench of talent.'

Apple has been here before, staring down the future without founder Steve Jobs at the helm.

Last time, it didn't go so well. Will this time be any better for the company that turned the lowercase "i" into shorthand for everything cool in the tech world?

The prognostications about Apple without Mr. Jobs as CEO (he will stay on as chairman of the board) run the gamut. Some predict the firm will lose its cutting edge. Others suggest that, at least for the next few years, Apple has a few more hands to play. One thing seems clear: Handing off the baton from visionary founder to successor is often a difficult transition for firms ? and can mark a company's shift from industry innovator to corporate stalwart.

Jobs's strength, and hence Apple's strength, has always been what Faisal Hoque calls ?disruptive technology? ? that is, coming up with creations that upset and redefine a market. But ?every firm with a charismatic leader and public face must eventually move from constantly being disruptive to a sustainable process for the long term,? says Mr. Hoque, author of ?The Power of Convergence: Linking Business Strategies and Technology Decisions to Create Sustainable Success."

Outsider John Sculley took over for Jobs in 1983, but left a decade later under a cloud. ?The company has clearly learned from that earlier experience and has a deep bench of talent and solid processes in place to move ahead,? says Mr. Hoque. Jobs picked 13-year Apple veteran Tim Cook, a loyal and experienced team player, to replace him ? an executive whom Hoque sees as steeped in the process side of Apple's business and as "well-positioned" to move the company forward.

Part of the challenge of the handoff, Apple watchers agree, is that Jobs himself is irreplaceable.

Having ?that knowledge of what the market will crave is unique to Steve Jobs in our generation,? says George Haley, director of the Center for International Industry Competitiveness at the University of New Haven's College of Business. ?If you look back at the history of innovation, the ability to understand what the market will go wild for is crucial. Nobody else [but Jobs] has had the string of innovation time after time.?

With Jobs in the wings as board chairman but removed from day-to-day operations, many analysts wonder about the working relationship with Mr. Cook. Will Cook be able to chart a new course for the company, or will he be relegated to carrying out Jobs's vision from the sidelines? wonders Mr. Haley.

A more serious issue may be Jobs?s ability to keep pace with marketplace tastes and needs if he is no longer in the daily fray. ?This ability to read the marketplace has really been his great strength, and if he is removed from that contact he may miss critical shifts,? adds Haley.

'Come on, Irene'? Why we mishear song lyrics

By Diane Mapes

Hurricane Irene already has people fleeing their homes, stocking up on supplies -- and from the looks of it, falling victim to mondegreens, those goofy misheard song lyrics that have plagued mankind since before rock met roll.

New York Magazine's Daily Intel blog?seems to have started it off with their flip "Come on, Irene!" at the end of a August 23 news story about how Hurricane Irene had the potential to become a category 4 storm. What they meant was "Come on, Eileen,"?a lyric (and title) taken from the 1982 platinum hit by Dexys Midnight Runners.

While?the blog?has since come clean about their error, others are sticking with the misheard version. So much so that we wouldn't be surprised if, any minute now,?"Come on, Irene" was a trending topic on Twitter.

The Eileen/Irene confusion is understandable -- they're similar-sounding, old-fashioned names, and for some, the play on words might be intentional. But what drives us to mishear song lyrics, even to the point where we embarrass ourselves -- not just at karaoke, but in print?

According to Dr. Wei Ji Ma, assistant professor of neuroscience at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Tex., it's extremely hard to understand what someone is saying (or singing) unless we're looking directly at the person's face.

"Understanding speech can be difficult, especially when it's noisy," Ma told? The Body Odd?in a 2009 interview regarding his research on the topic. "If you only have sound information, you will sometimes make mistakes."

Some of those mistakes can be found on websites like KissThisGuy, which gathers mangled song lyrics such as those found in Robert Palmer's Addicted to Love, or as someone once sang it: "Might as well face it, you're a dick with a glove."

Visual information helps us fill in the gaps, according to Ma. So much so that in a 2009 study he conducted, test subjects got the words right only 10 percent of the time when they relied on sound cues alone. But when they both watched and listened to videos of people saying various words, their understanding of those words went up to 60 percent.

As Ma explains it, the brain is like a police detective interviewing witnesses after a crime. Visual information is one witness; auditory information is another. But as with any criminal investigation, witnesses get mixed up. Ma says the brain basically weighs all the information it gathers, then comes up with its best guess.

Unfortunately, sometimes that guess results in laughably bad mondegreens like "wrapped up like a douche" (from Manfred Mann's "Blinded by the Light") or "Scallaboosh, Scallaboosh, will you do the banned tango?" (from Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody).

While there's still a bit of a question as to whether the Irene/Eileen swap-out is due to a mix-up or an intentional mash-up, there's no doubt that those living on the east coast will be happily bidding adieu to the storm in days to come.

Luckily, we've got the perfect song for them:? Good Night, Irene.

Toll Brothers' 3Q net income rises, revenue drops (AP)

HORSHAM, Pa. ? Toll Brothers Inc. said Wednesday that its fiscal third-quarter net income rose 54 percent, partly helped by a higher tax benefit. But the nation's biggest luxury homebuilder narrowed its full-year home delivery outlook, as market conditions remain unstable.

Toll Brothers earned $42.1 million, or 25 cents a share, for the three months ended July 31. That compares with net income of $27.3 million, or 16 cents a share, in the prior-year period.

This easily beat the 4 cents a share analysts polled by FactSet expected.

The quarter included a $38.2 million tax benefit compared with a $26.5 million benefit a year ago.

"This past quarter's results indicated some continued stabilization in the upscale housing market, albeit at a level dramatically below historical levels," CEO Douglas C. Yearley Jr. said in a statement.

Revenue dropped 13 percent to $394.3 million from $454.2 million, missing Wall Street's $409.2 million estimate.

Home deliveries fell 14 percent to 693 houses, while net signed contracts rose 2 percent to $406.7 million. The average price of net signed contracts was basically flat at $570,000.

Toll Brothers' cancellation rate rose to 7.4 percent from 6.2 percent, but the Horsham, Pa. company said that it was consistent with pre-downturn historical averages.

Backlog at the end of the quarter was $1.02 billion, up 8 percent.

While buyers are concerned about recent stock market volatility, the downgrade of U.S. debt and shaky consumer confidence, Toll Brothers said that they typically have strong financial profiles that allow them the secure financing for homes. Yearley said the company also has a strong position in some of the more promising U.S. markets, which includes the metro-D.C.-to-Boston corridor and its high-rise business in metro New York City.

"Our sales are gaining some traction, but consumer confidence is still weak and the housing sector remains in a fragile state," Executive Chairman Robert Toll said in a statement.

Toll Brothers, which has operations in 19 states, now expects to deliver between 2,475 and 2,675 homes during the year. Its prior forecast called for deliveries of 2,300 to 2,800 homes.

In morning trading, shares of the company added 59 cents, or 4 percent, to $15.33.

New Weather Monitoring Equipment For Your Farm With Help From Internet

Article by Justin Walton

If you live and work on a farm, you know how important knowing the weather can be. Storms, rain, snow, hail, wind, and other adverse conditions can wreak havoc with your farming schedule, and you will need to anticipate oncoming problems in order to determine what action you need to take in order to avoid your farm being hit hard. Fortunately, there are a number of ways you can anticipate bad weather to save your farm and keep it running right. And the first step you can take is to sign up with satellite internet. Here are a few ways it can help you managing weather conditions on your farm.

Weather conditions can arise quickly. Flash floods, heavy rains on unstable terrain, and tornadoes ? a common occurrence in many rural farming parts of the world ? can be particularly devastating in that they knock out communications before you can get information on how to react to them. Thankfully, one of the great advantages of satellite internet is that it allows you to remain in contact with the outside world even under some of the most fearful weather conditions. Whereas land based internet requires you to connect with cables, which are prone to being knocked out, satellite internet allows you to connect to the internet regardless of the state of the communication network around you. That way, you can receive the latest in weather updates from your computer to allow you to react quickly and effectively to weather conditions as they happen. In addition, you will have all of the advantages you have with traditional internet, such as being able to receive flood warnings and other announcements online. You will also be able to send outgoing communications without having to worry about the state of the communications network nearby.

One other advantage of satellite internet is that you can use it to help set up a personal weather station. Weather stations allow you to gauge the speed of the wind, barometric pressure, temperature, and humidity. Having a connection to the internet will allow you to find the best equipment to measure this data, as well as how to read it and use it to your advantage. This is particularly advantageous to rural farmers as weather updates can be difficult to come by, and weather stations are often quite distant from the location of your farm, making them in many cases irrelevant. Once you have your weather station set up, you can then integrate it with other users on satellite internet to provide accurate weather updates to other users around you, and if they have satellite internet they can also easily access your weather data so that they can better know the weather as it affects their properties as well. Take a look around with your internet connection to find out more about all the ways you can use it to make your farm better prepared for bad weather conditions.
